His father was Alexander Melville Bell, and his mother was Eliza Grace Bell.

He had two brothers: Melville James Bell and Edward Charles Bell.

He married Mabel Hubbard in 1877.

He had four children.

He immigrated to the United States in 1871.

Bell was awarded the first U.S. patent for the invention of the telephone in 1876.

He also co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885.

On January 25, 1915, He successfully made the first transcontinental telephone call.

He continued to work on communication devices throughout his life, including the photophone and metal detector.

He died on August 2, 1922, at the age of 75 in Nova Scotia, Canada.
