Harivansh Rai Bachchan was born on 27 November 1907 in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India.
His father’s name was Pratap Narayan Srivastava and his mother’s name was Saraswati Devi Srivastava.
His real surname was Srivastava. Bachchan, which means little boy, was the nickname given to Harivansh Rai by his family.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 1976.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was first married at the young age of 19 to Shyama Bachchan. But she died due to tuberculosis.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan later got married for the second time to Teji Bachchan.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan has 2 sons; Amitabh Bachchan and Ajitabh Bachchan.
His son Amitabh Bachchan is a famous actor.
He also worked at the All India Radio Station and later at the Ministry of External Affairs, translating documents into Hindi.
In 1966, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
In 1968, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan died on 18 January 2003.
