Morarji Desai was an Indian independence activist and politician. 

His full name was Morarji Ranchhodji Desai. 

He was the 4th Prime Minister of India. 

Morarji Desai was born on February 29, 1896, in present-day Gujarat, India. 

His father’s name was Ranchhodji Nagarji Desai, and his mother’s name was Vajiaben Desai. 

His father was a schoolteacher. 

He served as the Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. 

He was the first non-Congress Prime Minister of India.  

He actively participated in the Indian independence movement. 

He was imprisoned thrice during the freedom struggle. 

After independence, Desai held several key ministerial positions, including Minister of Finance. 

He was also the oldest person to become the Prime Minister of India.  

He died on 10 April 1995 at the age of 99. 

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1991.
