Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mathematical genius popularly known as the “Human Computer”.
Shakuntala Devi was born on 4 November 1929 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
His father’s name was C V Sundararaja Rao, who worked in a circus.
She was known to perform complex mathematical calculations in her mind.
She did not receive any formal schooling as her family could not afford the monthly fee of Rs 2.
Shakuntala Devi has a daughter named Anupama Banerjee.
On 18 June 1980, she demonstrated the multiplication of two random 13-digit numbers. She correctly answered in just 28 seconds. This was recorded in the 1982 Guinness Book of Records.
In 1988, She received the ‘Ramanujan Mathematical Genius’ Award in Washington D.C.
She wrote the book The World of Homosexuals, which is considered the first study of homosexuality in India.
Shakuntala Devi died in Bangalore on 21 April 2013 at the age of 83 due to heart and respiratory problems.
