Srimanta Sankardev was a saint, poet, playwright, and social reformer. 

Srimanta Sankardev was born in 1449 in Assam. 

His father’s name was Kusumvar Bhuyan. 

His mother’s name was Satyasandhya. 

He is the founder of the Ekasarana Dharma. 

Ekasarana Dharma focuses on devotion (bhakti) to Lord Krishna.

Ekasarana Dharma is also known as the Neo-Vaishnavite movement.  

He composed numerous devotional songs known as Borgeets, which are still sung and cherished in Assam. 

He emphasized social equality and worked towards eradicating caste distinctions.  

Sankardev was also a playwright and is credited with creating the drama form called Ankiya Naat. 

Srimanta Sankardev died in 1569. 

He established monasteries known as Satras, which served as centres for spiritual learning, education, and cultural activities.
