Milkha Singh was an Indian track and field athlete.  

He was also known as “The Flying Sikh”. 

Milkha Singh was born on 20 November 1929 in present-day Punjab, Pakistan. 

He spent most of his childhood in poverty.  

Milkha Singh married Nirmal Saini in 1963. 

He had three daughters and a son. 

He won gold medals in the 200m and 400m events in the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo.  

He set multiple national records and won numerous medals, including gold at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Milkha Singh’s life and achievements inspired a biographical film titled “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” released in 2013. 

He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award. 

He died on 18 June 2021 at the age of 91.
